In a bid to close a critical gap in our region and support people who have presented to an emergency department following an attempt at suicide or experiencing a suicidal crisis, we are pleased to announce Neami National as the successful provider to deliver The Way Back Support Service.

The Way Back is a non-clinical, psychosocial support service providing suicide prevention follow-up services to improve mental health and wellbeing in local communities.

The Service has been designed by Beyond Blue and co-designed with individual Primary Health Network’s and Local Health District’s to ensure it suits the needs of the local community.

An experienced, qualified support coordinator will work with clients for up to three months to develop and put in place a personalised support plan based on their needs, inclusive of but not limited to:

  • Encouragement and support following discharge from hospital/community mental health service.
  • Working with the client to develop a support/safety Plan
  • Referring and connecting the client to clinical and community-based support services.
  • Helping clients make, keep, and attend appointments with other services; and
  • Consistent, regular contact and support throughout the client’s engagement with the program.

More information on the service, referral pathways and eligibility will be available on our website in the coming weeks.
