The Wester Sydney Primary Health Network Citizens’ Assembly has continued to progress recommendations of the Citizens’ Juries held in 2023.

As the official Consumer Advisory Committee of the PHN, the Citizens’ Assembly provide unique insights into the gaps and opportunities to improve health services for residents of Western Sydney.

WentWest Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Specialist, Dr Jo Winchester said the Citizen Assembly is committed to better health outcomes for the community.

“Over the last few months, the Assembly has been refining the recommendations of the Jury and suggesting practical ways these could be implemented by WentWest or through other agencies and organisation,” Dr Winchester said.

“As the Western Sydney Primary Health Network, WentWest is committed to supporting community-led solutions to improve health services and linkages between services.

“We know that good health is dependent on a multitude of factors including housing, employment and education.”

With members from a broad range of cultural backgrounds, life stages, and lived experiences, the Assembly is crucial in helping shape services that are equitable, person-centred, and responsive to community needs.

Assembly members have participated in multiple forums and consultations in the last 12 months including presentations to universities and to health professionals.

“One of the highlights the insights of one of our First Nation Assembly members who shared how her journey of learning what is best for her baby has also empowered her to make more positive choices for herself,”

“This moment resonated deeply with WentWest staff and reaffirmed the importance of listening to lived experience.

As we move into the second half of the year, Citizen Assembly members will continue contributing to forums and workshops aligned with the Jury recommendations.
