National Diabetes Week, running from 12–18 July, is an opportunity to raise awareness of diabetes and highlight the support available to people across Western Sydney.

This year’s Diabetes Australia campaign, Living Out Loud, encourages people living with diabetes, carers, researchers, health professionals and community members to share the one thing they wish others knew about diabetes.

The campaign’s message is especially important in Western Sydney, where rates of type 2 diabetes and risk factors remain among the highest in the state.

Through the Western Sydney Diabetes partnership, WentWest is working with local health and community organisations to support prevention, early detection and management of diabetes.

Community members and healthcare providers are encouraged to explore available programs, resources and local events.

2kg Challenge

Small changes can make a big difference.

The 2kg Challenge encourages participants to lose 2kg through sustainable lifestyle changes that support long-term health and wellbeing. The program provides practical tools, resources and support designed to help people reduce their risk of type 2 diabetes and improve their overall health.

National Diabetes Week provides an ideal opportunity to take the first step and join the growing number of Western Sydney residents participating in the challenge.

Meet the team in the community

The Western Sydney Diabetes team will be connecting with community members throughout National Diabetes Week.

Auburn Community Leader Forum – 14 July

WentWest was honoured to participate in the Auburn Community Leader Forum on 14 July as part of National Diabetes Week 2026. The event brought together community leaders, health professionals, local organisations and residents to strengthen awareness of diabetes prevention, early detection and culturally responsive care.

The forum explored key topics including gestational diabetes, diabetes-related eye health, nutrition and prevention, with a strong focus on helping people “see it early and act early”.

“The Auburn Diabetes Initiative demonstrates what is possible when health services, community organisations and local leaders come together around a shared goal. Together, we can make prevention and early intervention more accessible and effective for our communities.” said Jane Assange, Director, Integration and Partnerships, WentWest.

The event reinforced WentWest’s longstanding partnership with Western Sydney Diabetes and its ongoing commitment to diabetes prevention in Western Sydney.

Blacktown Workers Club Pop-up Stall – 16 July
