WentWest is committed to strengthening the capability, confidence and sustainability of the primary health care workforce across Western Sydney. Through a comprehensive program of education, training and professional development opportunities, WentWest supports general practitioners, practice nurses, allied health professionals, Aboriginal health workers, practice managers, pharmacists and other primary care professionals to deliver high-quality, person-centred care. 

The education program is informed by local health priorities, emerging evidence, national reforms and the evolving needs of the primary care sector. Activities are designed to build knowledge, support quality improvement, encourage multidisciplinary collaboration and improve health outcomes for the Western Sydney community.

Education & Training Opportunities

WentWest delivers a range of education activities that support ongoing professional development and best-practice care. Sessions may be accredited and contribute towards professional development requirements for eligible clinicians.

Education opportunities support general practitioners, practice nurses, nurse practitioners, practice managers and broader practice teams to strengthen clinical knowledge, quality improvement and patient-centred care.

Nurses work collaboratively with GPs and other members of the practice team to provide safe and quality care.

We support practice nurses with a lot of training and events that are accredited by the Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA). Some of these include:

  • Asthma and Respiratory Management
  • Child Growth and Development workshops and
  • Health Care Homes specific training and networking

WentWest offers education that supports culturally safe and responsive care, helping improve outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other priority populations.

The National Initial Assessment and Referral (IAR) Training Program supports health professionals to understand and apply the Initial Assessment and Referral (IAR) Framework and the IAR Decision Support Tool (IAR-DST) in practice.
