Free counselling services are now available for Western Sydney residents.

With two in five people experiencing mental health issues in their lifetime, the service will cater for people of all ages.

Run by NorthWest Community Services (NWCS), the service is funded by the Western Sydney Primary Health Network.

WSPHN Chief Executive, Andrew Newton said the service would be a valuable addition to local mental health services.

“This service will help to meet unmet demand in Western Sydney,” Mr Newton said.

“We’re pleased to be working with NorthWest Community Services to overcome barriers such as cost, accessibility, and stigma, particularly for vulnerable and at-risk individuals.”

A spokesperson for NorthWest Community Services said many people experience mental illness in their lifetime but studies show many do not seek treatment.

The counselling Service is:

  • Free to all ages
  • Person-centred, trauma-informed, and strength-based
  • Delivered by qualified counsellors
  • Offering a variety of therapies, including art, play and sandtray therapy

“We have designed the service with the community and we will keep working with the community to ensure that it meets local needs,” the spokesperson said.

NWCS provides a wide range of services that support wellbeing across the lifespan — from early childhood playgroups, casework, financial counselling and emergency relief to recreational programs, social events, and community development initiatives. The addition of counselling strengthens this continuum of care and addresses one of the most pressing needs in our region.
