Western Sydney Diabetes (WSD) will present its eighth annual Masterclass Series in 2026, bringing together a faculty of 50 health professionals from across NSW to support better management of type 2 diabetes.
More than 1,400 people registered for the free series last year. The 2026 program is facilitated by WSD, the Agency for Clinical Innovation, the Diabetes, Obesity Metabolism Translational Research Unit, and participating Local Health Districts and Primary Health Networks across Western Sydney, Hunter New England, Nepean Blue Mountains and South Western Sydney.
The series is designed for GPs, pharmacists, diabetes educators, nurses, endocrinologists, dietitians, exercise physiologists, psychologists and podiatrists. It will provide practical, evidence-based strategies that participants can apply in everyday care.
Practical learning beyond glucose
This year’s theme, ‘Beyond Glucose’, explores the close relationship between cardiovascular, renal and metabolic health. Topics include:
- Diabetes medications and obesity management
- Continuous glucose monitoring and digital diabetes care
- Bringing specialist expertise into general practice
- Cardiovascular and kidney protection
- South Asian diabetes care
- Atypical diabetes
- Building a high-performing diabetes program in general practice
Flexible virtual and face-to-face learning
Virtual Series
The seven-week virtual program will run from 7:00pm to 8:30pm on Tuesdays from 15 September to 10 November.
Expert guest speakers will lead interactive case studies, panel discussions and question-and-answer sessions throughout the virtual program. Participants who miss a session can access recordings and presentation slides through the myINTERACT app.
Face-to-face Program Day
An interactive face-to-face day will be held from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday 7 November.
The face-to-face day at PARKROYAL Parramatta will feature practical sessions and case studies led by endocrinologists, general practitioners and other diabetes health professionals.
Participants will also be able to network with colleagues and learn more from the series’ sponsors and partners at information booths.
You can choose to register for virtual sessions, attend the face-to-face day, or participate in both.
Bringing clinicians together
WSD Masterclass coordinator and Endocrine Registrar Dr Anoji Thevarajah said the program would help clinicians address cardiovascular, renal and metabolic risks together rather than in isolation.
“We’ve designed the program to give GPs practical, evidence-based strategies they can use in everyday practice, while also highlighting the newer therapies and approaches that are changing the way we manage people with diabetes. The hybrid format gives people the flexibility of virtual learning while creating space to share ideas, learn from each other and discuss the challenges clinicians see in day-to-day care.”
