Health professionals across Western Sydney are being urged to register for a special online session focusing on refugee health – Refugee Health in Western Sydney: A Million Stories

This unique educational session on Wednesday 17 June (6:30 PM – 7:45 PM) offers clinicians practical insights they can immediately apply in their daily practice. Seats are limited, and early registration is strongly encouraged.

As home to some of the most culturally diverse communities in the country, Western Sydney is a key settlement area for refugees.

In parts of the region, up to 60% of residents are born overseas with Western and South Western Sydney together receive the highest number of refugees in NSW

These figures highlight the growing need for health professionals to confidently deliver culturally responsive, trauma-informed care to meet the needs of diverse communities.

People from refugee backgrounds often arrive with complex health profiles shaped by displacement, trauma and disrupted access to care. Many face ongoing challenges navigating the healthcare system, including language barriers, financial constraints and limited health literacy.

This event brings together local expertise and lived experience to help health professionals better support patients from refugee backgrounds.

Attendees will gain:

  • A deeper understanding of physical and mental health impacts of refugee experiences
  • Practical approaches to trauma-informed and culturally safe care
  • Insights into barriers to access and how to overcome them
  • Awareness of local services and referral pathways to support holistic care
