Digital health is important to empower health care users and providers to better manage health outcomes, as well as strengthen data systems across the health sector.

MyMedicare is a new voluntary patient registration model which aims to strengthen the relationship between patients, their general practice, GPs and primary care teams. The Australian Government has introduced the model called to drive improvements in primary health care for all Australians and deliver new funding packages to primary care providers. Telehealth allows you to consult a health care provider by phone or a video call when they have determined a physical examination isn’t needed, and you can’t see them in person.

An electronic prescription is a digital version of a paper prescription. They are a safe and convenient alternative to paper prescriptions. 

You can choose to receive an electronic prescription from your healthcare provider when you next need a prescription, or you can request for it to be sent to your Active Script List (ASL).

1800MEDICARE is a free 24/7 service where individuals can speak to a registered nurse about any health concern and be connected to the right care.

Access 1800MEDICARE by calling 1800MEDICARE (1800 633 422), visiting the website, or using the 1800MEDICARE app to access trusted health information and advice.

Depending on your needs, you may be supported to self-manage, or guided to services such as a GP, pharmacy, urgent care clinic or the emergency department. After hours, eligible patients may also be offered a free GP telehealth consultation.

The 1800MEDICARE app gives the community an easy and secure way to access key health information and services in one place.

Through the app, you can:

  • Access trusted health information and tools, including a symptom checker
  • Connect to 1800MEDICARE services, including nurse triage and, where appropriate, after-hours GP telehealth consultations
  • Access and manage My Health Record
  • View and manage electronic prescriptions and their Active Script List
  • Find and connect with health services
