Our annual Immunisation Bike Competition began in 2011 to incentivise parents to immunise their children on time and improve childhood immunisation rates in Western Sydney. We would like to thank the 110 general practices which partnered with us in our latest campaign period (1 October 2023 to 31 January 2024), especially to the following practices that have participated for 10 or more consecutive years:

  • Alpha Medical Centre
  • Barwell Medical Centre
  • Health First Medical Practice
  • Norwest General Practice
  • Parramatta Medical Centre
  • Seven Hills Family Medical Centre
  • The Practice Blacktown NSW
  • Toongabbie Medical Practice

During this campaign period, 550 children aged 12 months, 18 months and four years were immunised and went into the draw to win a bike and helmet.

Prize Giving Ceremony

On Saturday 23 March, we held our Immunisation Bike Competition Prize Giving Ceremony to present the winners with their prizes and reflect on the importance of childhood immunisation. The list of this year’s winners can be found on our Immunisation Bike Completion webpage.

Dr Michael Fasher, GP Clinical Director at WentWest and general practitioner in Blacktown for 40 years has been closely involved with this initiative. In his message to the families, he said “Immunisation is just so important for keeping small people healthy when they are young, but also for the whole of the rest of their life. The Bike Competition is about happy, healthy living and that’s what I wish to you all.”

Childhood Immunisation Resources

Although the Immunisation Bike Competition has ended, we encourage health professionals to continue reminding patients about the importance of timely childhood immunisation and refer to the following resources.

GoShare Bundle

We have partnered with GoShare to deliver bundled translated resources about childhood immunisation, making it easier for GPs to educate their patients. By doing this, we hope to give patients whose primary language is not English, greater access to participating in the competition and understanding the importance of timely immunisations.
