Faculty at the Diabetes Dilemmas webinar on Monday 19 October: Sharon McClelland, Anandhi Murugesan, Dr Cathy Ngo, Dr Tien-Ming Hng, Dr Rajini Jayaballa and Tim Perry.

In 2014 the Western Sydney Diabetes (WSD) initiative was established to reduce the high rates of diabetes in Western Sydney. The region has been labelled a diabetes ‘hotspot’, for many years with disease rates higher than the New South Wales average.

WSD is a partnership between Western Sydney Primary Health Network, Western Sydney Local Health District, Diabetes NSW & ACT and PricewaterhouseCoopers, with an Alliance of over 130 partner organisations.

One of the main initiatives of our WSD partnership this year has been the Diabetes Masterclass Series, with the last webinar coming up on Monday 9 November. The team transformed a full day face-to-face conference into a 10-week webinar series to help build the capacity of health care professionals in Western Sydney to prevent and better manage diabetes and help support their patients.

So far, more than 785 participants and 40 faculty members have come together for the Diabetes Masterclass Series, with an increase in 151% in attendance since last years, Diabetes is Changing Fast Masterclass event.

Topics have ranged from mental wellbeing, pregnancy and diabetes, obesity management, diabetes dilemmas, injectables and more.

Health care professionals can still register for next week’s webinar, discussing the topic of Technology. The webinar series is being held on the myINTERACT app and is available for the next 12 months for health care professionals to access at any time.

Attendees can also receive a Certificate of Attendance to self-report for CPD points. Simply complete the survey at the end on the myINTERACT app to claim your certificate.
