My Health Record is an online tool that summarises an individual’s health information and can be shared securely online between the individual and health care providers. My Health Record gives health care providers access to patient health information in a timely and efficient manner to improve the coordination of care of their patients.

Patient information stored in the My Health Record system includes:

  • Shared health summaries
  • Hospital discharge summaries
  • Prescription and dispensing records
  • Pathology and diagnostic imaging reports
  • MBS and PBS history
  • Immunisation information

The benefits of using My Health Record include:

  • Timely access to key health information
  • Avoided duplication of tests, scans, and diagnostics
  • Minimised administrative time and burden to collect information
  • Facilitated care coordination with other health care providers
  • Support in clinical decision-making

My Health Record has over 23 million records with 277 million clinical documents. Nationally, 99% of GPs and pharmacies are now registered to use the system.[1] In the Western Sydney Primary Health Network (WSPHN) catchment area, 1,234 GPs are using My Health Record.[2] With better use of technology, the health care system continues to improve control and access to information to providers and helps people live healthier lives.
