World Diabetes Day (WDD) is an annual event celebrated on November 14, aiming to raise awareness about diabetes, its impact and the importance of prevention and management.

63% of people with diabetes say that the fear of developing diabetes-related complications affects their well-being and 28% of people with diabetes find it hard to remain positive in relation to their condition [1]. That’s why this year’s theme for WDD is wellbeing. This theme emphasises the holistic approach needed to manage diabetes effectively, focusing not just on physical health but also on mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. Living with diabetes can be challenging, and supporting overall wellbeing is crucial for individuals to lead fulfilling lives.

The following services and programs can support a holistic approach to diabetes management whilst promoting well-being:

  • 2kg Challenge: encourages participants to lose two kilograms, promoting healthier habits and fostering a supportive community focused on sustainable weight management 
  • No Money No Time: focuses on promoting healthy eating by offering a variety of accessible nutritious recipes that make it easy for individuals to on a budget and with limited time
  • NSW Get Healthy Service: provides personalised health coaching and resources to help individuals set and achieve their wellness goals, promoting a healthier lifestyle across the state
  • Heart Foundation Walking: encourages individuals to enhance their health and wellbeing through regular walking, offering resources and community support to foster a more active lifestyle

Western Sydney Diabetes

Western Sydney Diabetes (WSD) was established in response to the growing threat diabetes poses to our community’s health and wellbeing. Focusing on improving awareness, prevention, and management of the condition through community-based programs. These initiatives emphasise education, healthy eating and increased physical activity, aiming to empower people to take charge of their health and reduce the impact of diabetes in the region. HealthPathways Resources
