The Consumer Advisory Council helps us to deliver a patient-centred system of primary health care with better health outcomes for Western Sydney.
The Consumer Advisory Council is made up of consumer and community members living or working within Western Sydney. The Council meets five times a year to ensure consumer and community perspectives influence WentWest’s decisions, investments, and innovations.
The Consumer Advisory Council also links in with the Clinical Council to ensure health consumers and health care providers do not work in isolation in the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of health programs and services.
Purpose of the Consumer Advisory Council
The Consumer Advisory Council aims to:
- To advocate for person-centred, locally relevant perspectives about the health care needs and experiences of Western Sydney communities
- To assist in identifying service gaps in Western Sydney. This contributes to the formal WentWest Needs Assessment which informs the central purpose of Western Sydney Primary Health Network
Consumer and Community Engagement Model
We have been working in partnership with Health Consumers NSW (HCNSW) since 2013 to ensure ongoing and effective engagement of health care consumers in the planning and implementation of health services.
Together the organisations launched a Consumer and Community Engagement Model which aims to take a consumer centred, top-down, bottom-up approach to engagement. This model is central to our Needs Assessment and Activity Plan particularly in the commissioning of services across the Western Sydney region.
