Struggling for ways to remotely share information with patients? GoShare is a free resource for all general practices in Western Sydney that empowers patients to manage their health conditions through access to tailored information bundles. GoShare saves on time and print-outs by allowing health professionals to collate and disseminate resources to patients at the click of a button.
What is GoShare?
GoShare is a digital patient education platform that allows health professionals to send tailored, trusted health resources to patients by email or SMS to help manage their medical conditions. WentWest has funded GoShare and GoShare Plus subscriptions for all Western Sydney general practices so that all GPs have access to GoShare’s free educational resources.
GoShare enables health care professionals to educate and empower their patients to play a more active role in their health management. Health professionals can choose from hundreds of Australian health and wellness videos, patient stories, animations, fact sheets, apps and resources to send to patients or carers via SMS and email. These credible, evidence-based resources have been developed by Australia’s leading health organisations or by Healthily in partnership with health experts. Resources are designed to complement face-to-face consultations by building the knowledge, skills and confidence of patients in managing illness. The range of topics and content formats target all types of health literacy levels and learning styles.
What is GoShare Plus?
Healthily has integrated GoShare with the clinical audit tool CAT4 to create GoShare Plus – a powerful patient engagement tool.
GoShare Plus is an SMS reminder tool, which brings together CAT4’s health analytics capability to create defined patient criteria lists, with GoShare’s extensive content library and unique ‘content bundle’ delivery method.
Practice managers and nurses can use GoShare Plus to quickly send relevant information to specific patient groups, as well as tailored preventive health campaigns and reminders. Since many GoShare Plus campaign bundles are aligned with MBS item numbers (e.g. Home Medicines Review, 45-49 year health assessment, 75+ health assessment, GPMP/TCA), GoShare and GoShare Plus also support Quality Improvement activities. COVID-19 resources are also available to send targeted communications on vaccinations, testing and COVID-safe behaviours.
Tim Perry, GP Pharmacist Lead for Western Sydney Primary Health Network (WSPHN), utilises GoShare via PenCat, ‘Together with the practice team, I plan a strategy to inform or engage a particular patient population. GoShare gives me the flexibility to choose from a range of videos that best deliver a particular message. Working closely with GPs, I filter a population list of their patients so that they can send out tailored GoShare packages to approved patients. GoShare has proven a great tool for sharing health information to targeted patients straight to their inbox’.
Tim’s first campaign with GoShare was working with a practice that had a very low rate of medication reviews. Patients that could benefit from a Home Medicines Review (HMR) were sent a targeted GoShare information bundle. 17% of recipients reacted to the message by following up with their GP, who organised an HMR for them.

Getting the most out of GoShare
- Activate your GoShare subscription by contacting your PHN Lead from the Practice Development Team (PDT)
- Access GoShare online (go to goshare.com.au) or through existing practice software (e.g. CAT4 for access to GoShare Plus, and integration with Best Practice is coming soon)
- Customise GoShare to include your practice logo and messaging
- Include any of your own practice content in content modules (videos, PDFs, link to your practice website)
- Utilise the Patient Feedback Survey and engagement reporting tools
