COVID-19 outbreaks in residential aged care facilities (RACF) in Sydney and Victoria have demonstrated the critical role general practice plays in mitigating the impact of a COVID-19 outbreak for residents who are vulnerable members of our community. For this reason, our Practice Development team partnered with the Western Sydney Local Health District and Public Health Unit, through collaborative commissioning to identify gaps in RACF for COVID-19 outbreak preparedness and make our role as the Western Sydney Primary Health Network visible for any further support beyond COVID-19.

The WentWest Practice Development Team visited 50 RACF over two weeks to ensure clarity of roles and communication, which are important safety factors in an outbreak.

Gaps are being discussed and initiatives underway to address issues with the COVID-19 management plan in a RACF. We are working together to contribute and connect RACF to services that are available for them.

We are also seeking Registrations of Interest (ROI) from primary care providers across Western Sydney who are prepared to support a rapid response in the event of a COVID-19 outbreak in a RACF.

If your practice is interested, please complete the attached ROI and email to support@wentwest.com.au by Tuesday 29 September.

Contact your Practice Development Officer for more information and read up on our priority in Aged Care on our website.
