WentWest is delighted to announce the appointment of Andrew Newton as our new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Andrew joins us from his most recent role as CEO of Northern Beaches Hospital, Healthscope, where he has exemplified outstanding leadership and vision for over four years.
Andrew brings a wealth of experience to WentWest, spanning public and private health sectors over more than three decades. He is no stranger to Western Sydney, having served as General Manager of Westmead, Auburn and Blacktown-Mount Druitt hospitals for a combined period of six years. During this time, Andrew was instrumental in the successful delivery of a major expansion program for Blacktown-Mount Druitt hospitals, marking the project as one of the largest directly funded health capital initiatives in NSW.
Andrew’s dedication to fostering engagement with staff, local communities and stakeholders, notably including GPs and Primary Health Networks, has been amply demonstrated in his most recent role at Healthscope, and before that as Southern NSW Local Health District CEO and his earlier Western Sydney roles, aligning perfectly with WentWest’s mission.
His leadership will build on the substantial legacy established by Ray Messom and our outstanding WentWest team, enabling WentWest to continue its contributions in this era of health care innovation and reform. This focus is crucial as we continue to support general practice and integrate services across the Western Sydney region, always with the end goal of improving health equity and outcomes for our diverse communities.
The WentWest Board extends its deepest gratitude to our staff for their unwavering dedication during the transitional period following Ray Messom’s departure. Special thanks go to Michelle Quinn, who has served as Interim CEO with exceptional commitment to WentWest’s vision and values. Michelle will resume her pivotal role in leading the Strategic Commissioning and Insights directorate as Executive Director upon Andrew’s arrival. Andrew is set to officially commence his journey with WentWest on a date soon to be announced.
