Testing for COVID-19 at Home
A Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) is a quick way to detect COVID-19.
You should test for COVID-19 by using a RAT if you:
- Have any COVID-19 symptoms, even if only mild
- Are a household, social, workplace or education contact of a positive case
- Are doing pre-event testing, such as before visiting vulnerable family members
- Are a worker, resident, patient, or client in a high-risk setting where there is a current confirmed outbreak
- Are going to hospital for a procedure and have been requested to test by the hospital
- Are an international arrival, either a passenger or flight crew entering NSW from overseas
Rapid Antigen Tests are available to buy at supermarkets, pharmacies, and other retail outlets. Find out more about RATs on the NSW Health website.
People who are tested for COVID-19 are required to follow the NSW Health self-isolation guidelines until they receive a negative result.

COVID-19 Testing Clinics in Western Sydney
You should ask your doctor for a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test referral if you have COVID-19 symptoms and you are at a higher risk of severe illness.
If you are at higher risk of severe illness, plan ahead. Speak to your GP about early treatment for COVID-19, such as antiviral treatment, so you understand your options if you test positive.
Specific testing advice for residents, staff and visitors at residents of aged care facilities is available. Speak to your residential aged care provider if you have questions.
